Refik Anadol: Rumi Dreams
What does AI dream about in MODEM?
What does AI dream about? Does data have an aesthetic? Can collective cultural memory be visualized? What new meaning does digitization give to the mystical literature of the 13th century? Let’s find the answers together and discover what AI can do when fueled by the creative vision of a world-renowned media artist on 3 August at 18h00!
Refik Anadol has exploded into the public consciousness like a comet as he redefined the relationship between technology and culture through his groundbreaking media work. Anadol’s work quickly became a sensation, and now, after the MOMA in New York, the Sphere in Las Vegas and the Grammy Gala in Los Angeles, the internationally acclaimed Turkish artist will be wowing audiences in Debrecen with his groundbreaking visuals for 2 months from 3 August 2024.
His video work Rumi Dreams promises to be thought-provoking in many ways. The exhibition was created in memory of Mevlana Jallaludin Rumi, a poet, philosopher, scholar and Sufi mystic who lived in Anatolia in the 13th century.
It is therefore no wonder that the installation is generating great interest in interdisciplinary circles, both in the fields of art and culture and technology.
This audiovisual work, which will be open to the public for two months and requires 32 m2 of LED screens, requires a high level of technical expertise. The artist and the MODEM’s generous supporters, who share the values of our institution, are contributing to the ambitious design.
The main sponsors of the show are Synergy Construction Hungary Kft. and Yapi Merkezi Group, while other sponsors are Lounge Media Group, Special Effects Ltd., Swicongroup and Wizz Air Holdings Plc. With their honorable donations, the sponsors patronize cultural collaboration and the beneficial cooperation between art and digitalization.
As part of the Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Year 2024 and the 58th Debrecen Flower Carnival, the exhibition of Refik Anadol, a world-renowned Turkish media artist, coming to MODEM will be a highlight event.
The exhibition at MODEM is a collaboration between the Municipality of Debrecen, the Municipality of Konya, the Turkish Embassy in Budapest, Refik Anadol Studio and MODEM Debrecen.
